‘Catharsyss’ – Gorgeous Fucking Illustrations Bursting In Kink and Existentialism

Romanian artist and graphic designer Andrei Gabriel Talpa comes in like a “wrecking ball”. His immaculate artworks are climbing into your mind, making up an unrepairable mess on the way out. They’re “the climb”.

Ok, putting aside any Miley Cyrus’ puns, Andrei’s unconventional, half-existentialist, half-kinky illustrations are an uncontestable joy for the eye (and for your inner catchy-phrases lover). Almost every work of his is accompanied by short poems or smart-ass captions skillfully embedded in the illustration itself. A combination of word-games and edgy sketches.

Minimalism has always been one of my favorite takes on art (and poetry, for that matter), and these are a combination of the two – simply beautiful and soul-soothing.

The ongoing series of illustrations is developed under the idea of catharsis (stylized as Catharsyss), suggesting that everything that’s generated by the artist’s hands and brains is an ample release of until-now-repressed feelings – an emotional orgasm, if you will.

It appears that Andrei’s inner self swims in cynicism and dreams of that right gurl to share his cynical self with. “To feel complete, we must join our nothingness to another’s being!”, as our old, dead-eyed genius buddy used to say.
