LYIA META Releases Soulful Album “Next”

The talented Malaysian singer-songwriter Lyia Meta returns with her new album “Next”, which promises to be as critically acclaimed and award-winning as her previous release “Always You” from 2023. With a vocal range that brings to mind Cher, Bonnie Raitt, Sade, and Linda Ronstadt, Lyia Meta explores pop, jazz, soul, and mainstream music genres, displaying her unique style and emotional depth.

‘All My Loving’, the first track on the album, lays out the theme of the entire album with a lounge jazz flair. Warming lounge-set soundscapes complement an enveloping vocal presence – reminiscent of ’70s jazzy pop. The lyrics are simple and heartfelt, with a message of adoration and devotion. The instrumentation is sparse but effective, creating a mood of romantic longing and longing.

She reckons that „a significant highlight of this album is the inclusion of “All My Loving,” a song that has been thoughtfully rearranged to honor the profound influence The Beatles have had on the evolution of modern music. This song was intentionally added to the album as America celebrates the 60th anniversary of The Beatles’ historic landing on American soil—a moment that sparked a cultural revolution and forever changed the trajectory of popular music. By including this track, we pay tribute not only to The Beatles’ legacy but also to their enduring impact on artists like myself, who continue to be inspired by their groundbreaking contributions to music and culture.”

This track is followed by ‘Easier and Easier’ where Lyia’s smooth jazz can be heard again and is greatly appreciated. A similar aesthetic is displayed on ‘I’ll Look Behind,’ which weaves seamlessly between twinkling piano, sporadic brass orchestration, and string-laden wanderings.

As one of the album’s standout tracks, ‘Home to You,’ was teased on Spotify prior to its release. The song introduces a refreshing change in genre, with a junkyard country style that is perfectly complemented by Lyia’s smooth jazz compositions and breathy vocalizations reminiscent of Sade.
