Eli Roth is back with another dose of unapologetic horror, and this time he’s turning one of summer’s sweetest traditions into pure nightmare fuel. The director known for films such as “Hostel”, “Cabin Fever” and “Thanksgiving” has unveiled the first red-band trailer for “Ice Cream Man”, a blood-soaked horror feature scheduled to hit US cinemas on August 7.
At first glance, the film appears to unfold in a quiet, idyllic town enjoying a carefree summer season. But beneath the postcard-perfect setting lurks something far more sinister. The arrival of a mysterious ice cream vendor sets off a chain of horrifying events when local children begin consuming frozen treats with devastating consequences.
What starts as a familiar neighborhood ritual soon descends into chaos. As the effects of the ice cream take hold, the town’s children are transformed into violent predators, unleashing a wave of carnage that turns suburban comfort into a terrifying battleground.
The newly released trailer showcases Roth’s signature mix of graphic violence, dark comedy and over-the-top horror. Viewers are treated to disturbing images of children hunting adults, brutal attacks and enough gore to satisfy even the most dedicated splatter fans.
Ari Millen takes on the role of the enigmatic Ice Cream Man, leading a cast that also includes Benjamin Byron Davis, Karen Cliche, Dylan Hawco and Sarah Abbott. Roth directs and produces the film while sharing screenplay duties with longtime collaborator Noah Belson.
At the heart of the story is a chilling concept: an entire community slowly unraveling as children develop an insatiable hunger after eating the cursed treats. The result is a nightmare scenario where the youngest residents become the town’s greatest threat.
Behind the scenes, the project brings together an impressive creative team. The score is composed by Brandon Roberts, while additional musical contributions come from hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg. The practical effects and prosthetic makeup were crafted by Steve Newburn and Academy Award-winning makeup artist Adrien Morot, whose previous work includes “The Whale”.
The film also represents a new chapter for Roth professionally, serving as the first feature released through his recently launched production company, The Horror Section. Established in 2024, the company is dedicated exclusively to horror projects, reinforcing Roth’s commitment to the genre that made him famous.
Following the commercial success of “Thanksgiving”, Roth appears determined to continue exploring the wild, visceral energy of classic splatter cinema. If the trailer is any indication, “Ice Cream Man” could become one of the most outrageous and talked-about horror releases of the year.
