Soror Dolorosa have released a full-length concert film capturing their performance at last year’s Prophecy Fest, presented under the title “Back to the Cave”. Filmed in the legendary Balve Cave and professionally shot with a multi-camera setup, the video documents one of the most significant moments in the band’s recent live history. The concert film is now freely available across major platforms, offering fans direct access to the group’s immersive stage presence.

The recording marks the conclusion of Soror Dolorosa’s European tour in the summer of 2025. For frontman Andy Julia, the Prophecy Fest appearance remains a defining memory. He describes the show as one of the band’s most meaningful live experiences, shaped by both the unique setting and the atmosphere created by the audience. The production was realized in collaboration with director Livja Pjetra, known for her work on the band’s videos ‘Apollo’, ‘That Run’, ‘The End’, and ‘Tear It Up’, the latter taken from their current album “Mond”. Frédéric Duarte, who previously documented their Rive-Gauche performance in 2014, also contributed by operating one of the seven cameras used during the shoot.

More than a simple concert document, “Back to the Cave” reflects the band’s artistic development over recent years. The setlist brings together material from “Mond” alongside reworked versions of songs originally released on “Aurora”, reshaped through live performance. The result presents Soror Dolorosa at a moment of creative consolidation, where past and present intersect with clarity and confidence.

Emerging from a tradition shaped by acts such as Sisters Of Mercy, Fields Of The Nephilim, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, The Human League, and Ultravox, Soror Dolorosa continue to engage with the legacy of post-punk and new wave without retreating into imitation. Their music draws from the emotional intensity and nocturnal aesthetics of that era while translating it into a contemporary language built for modern audiences.

This approach reaches its most refined form on “Mond”, the band’s fourth full-length release. The album combines dark melodic structures with expansive production, creating a sound that feels both intimate and monumental. Mixing and mastering were handled by James Kent of Pertubator, whose work adds depth, clarity, and tension to the record’s sonic architecture.

The current lineup, centered around Andy Julia and bassist Hervé Carles, was strengthened by the addition of guitarist Jean-Baptiste Marquet. His contributions as a composer and arranger have reinforced the rhythmic and melodic framework of “Mond”, bringing stronger dance-oriented elements to the foreground. These qualities mark a clear progression from earlier releases such as “Blind Scenes”, “No More Heroes”, and “Apollo”.

Lyrically, Soror Dolorosa remain rooted in the poetic and introspective tradition that has defined their work since their formation in Toulouse in 2001 and the release of the “Severance” EP in 2009. Influences from writers like William Blake and Edgar Allan Poe continue to inform their emotional landscapes, centered on themes of longing, transcendence, and inner conflict.

With “Back to the Cave” and “Mond”, Soror Dolorosa reaffirm their position within contemporary gothic rock. The concert film captures a band fully aware of its heritage and its trajectory, navigating between memory and momentum as they shape the next phase of their evolution.
