More than three decades after Kevin McCallister first defended his family home with ingenious traps and unwavering confidence, Macaulay Culkin could be preparing to revisit the role that defined an entire generation. According to reports, Disney is actively developing a new chapter in the “Home Alone” universe, and this time, the studio’s greatest asset may be Culkin himself.

The news surfaced through “The Town with Matthew Belloni” podcast, where Belloni claimed the actor had recently been spotted on the Disney lot discussing a new concept for the franchise. While nothing has been officially confirmed, sources familiar with the conversations reportedly describe the pitch as remarkably strong, with Disney said to be enthusiastic about moving the project forward.

Ironically, the idea that appears to be gaining traction is one Culkin himself has spoken about publicly. During his 2025 live tour, “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin”, the actor reflected on what it would take for him to return to “Home Alone”, insisting it would only happen if the story genuinely justified revisiting Kevin McCallister.

His proposal turns the original premise inside out.

Rather than following an abandoned child, the story would introduce an adult Kevin, now a single father, either divorced or widowed, struggling to balance work and family life. After accidentally locking himself out of his own house, he finds himself at the mercy of his young son, who refuses to let him back inside and begins setting elaborate traps inspired by the legendary exploits that once made Kevin famous.

It is a premise that embraces nostalgia without simply repeating it, shifting the perspective from childhood ingenuity to parenthood while allowing the mythology of the original films to evolve naturally.

If the project moves forward, it would mark Culkin’s first full return to the franchise since “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” in 1992. Although the series continued through several sequels and reboots, including Disney’s “Home Sweet Home Alone” in 2021, none managed to capture the cultural resonance of the first two films, both starring Culkin as Kevin McCallister.

In recent years, the actor has become increasingly selective about his work, appearing in productions such as “American Horror Story”, “Fallout” Season 2, and “Zootopia 2”. He also briefly revisited Kevin in “Home But Not Alone”, a 2025 advertising short that reminded audiences just how enduring the character remains.

For now, the new “Home Alone” exists only as an industry rumor, and Disney has yet to announce the project officially. Even so, the possibility of Culkin returning with a story rooted in the passage of time rather than simple nostalgia already feels like the most compelling direction the franchise has explored in decades. Instead of recreating the past, it would allow Kevin McCallister to grow up alongside the audience that never truly left him behind.
