After reinventing one of adventure cinema’s most beloved franchises, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black are stepping into unfamiliar territory for what promises to be the most ambitious chapter of the modern “Jumanji” saga. Sony Pictures has officially unveiled the first trailer for “Jumanji: Open World”, revealing a story that finally erases the boundary between the game and reality.

The new film continues directly from the closing moments of “Jumanji: The Next Level”, where creatures from the game escaped into the real world. This time, however, it is not only the wildlife that crosses over. Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Professor Shelly Oberon, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Ruby Roundhouse emerge from the digital universe themselves, no longer serving as avatars but existing as independent characters with identities entirely their own.

For the first time since the franchise was reborn, Spencer, Martha, Bethany and Fridge meet the heroes they once inhabited face to face. The familiar relationship between player and avatar is dismantled, opening an entirely new dynamic where both worlds must coexist, and survive.

The trailer also hints at another unexpected twist. A fresh generation is pulled into the game, but the rules have changed. Spencer unexpectedly finds himself inside Ruby Roundhouse’s body, while his mother, Janice Gilpin, portrayed by Marin Hinkle, is transformed into Dr. Smolder Bravestone. Young newcomer Tyson, played by Jack Jewkes, becomes the latest version of Mouse Finbar, giving Kevin Hart another opportunity to reinvent the character through an entirely different personality.

Although Sony continues to keep the larger narrative under wraps, the first footage suggests that “Jumanji: Open World” expands the mythology further than any previous installment. Rather than sending players into the game once again, the film explores what happens when both realities begin occupying the same space, forcing its heroes to protect not one world, but two.

Development of the fourth installment was confirmed in late 2024 before the official title, “Jumanji: Open World”, was revealed in 2026. Early footage debuted exclusively during CinemaCon before Karen Gillan teased the trailer’s arrival through social media, building anticipation for what appears to be the concluding chapter of the current storyline.

If this truly marks the final adventure for the cast that redefined “Jumanji” for a new generation, the series seems determined to leave on its largest scale yet, bringing together every layer of its universe before closing the game one last time.
