I’m glad I finally had the chance and time to watch a movie, haven’t done it in a while or so. After some research, I decided to see Lady Bird, a beautifully realistic wanna-be comedy drama. The main character, Christine “Lady Bird” is a high school senior from the “wrong side of the tracks” played by Saoirse Ronan, an ordinary girl looking for adventure and sophistication.

“People go by the names their parents give them, but they don’t believe in God.”

There are ninety-four minutes of ups and downs, an impressing story every young girl deals with; you’ll see rebellion, love, friendship or how losing virginity is not such a mind blowing experience. Moreover, it has totally gained me on the daughter-mother (played by Laurie Metcalf – or Sheldon’s mum from The Bing Bang Theory) strong, yet shy in communicating their feelings kinda relationship. The whole scenery takes places in 2002 in Sacramento and is based on Lady Bird first love, family conflicts or dreaming about college. Long story short, this conflict is followed by Lady Bird applying to colleges and hoping to be accepted into one that is out-of-state, despite her mother’s insistence that the family could not afford it. It’s so damn haunting and real that I wanted more.

“Marion: I want you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be.
Lady Bird: What if this is the best version?”

I do know now that fighting my parents about everything and anything while being a child made me appreciate them even more for their honest, unconditional love. So, yeah, you could say I found the ending revealing, quite heartbreaking. I felt this movie way too personal, maybe it was a response to being homesick. This film won two Golden Globes and I’d say that’s kinda fair considering the story and Saoirse beautiful interpretation.
