We have felt a significant disturbance in the Force. Did you feel it too? Perhaps it is related to Disney’s decision to remove an untitled “Star Wars” film that was previously scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, from its calendar. Instead, “Ice Age 6” will take its place. It’s quite a surprising change, isn’t it?

Although the specific details of the project were never confirmed, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was previously announced as the director of a new “Star Wars” film that would follow Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

The film lost screenwriter Steven Knight earlier this year, following the departures of Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson from the project. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy noted at last year’s Star Wars Celebration that Daisy Ridley’s upcoming film would focus on Rey as she establishes a new Jedi Order.

This situation isn’t unique; there have been other potential entries in the beloved space opera franchise that never made it to production. The next “Star Wars” movie, titled “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and directed by Jon Favreau, is scheduled to premiere in May 2026. Additionally, another untitled “Star Wars” film is planned for December 17, 2027.
