After 29 years, “South Park” has apparently decided that geography needs a rewrite.

For Season 29, Paramount and creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are giving the long-running Comedy Central series a new name: “South America.” The change arrives with a new title card and the kind of announcement that makes perfect sense if you have been following the increasingly surreal politics surrounding the word “America.”

“Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA,” Parker and Stone announced, adding a particularly pointed thank-you to Paramount, which they described as “a Skydance Capitulation.”

The joke lands squarely in the territory of Donald Trump’s recent attempts to put “America” on the map; sometimes literally. In August 2026, Trump signed an executive order calling for Lake Ontario to be referred to as “Lake America.” This followed his earlier attempt to rename the portion of the Gulf of Mexico within U.S. territorial waters the “Gulf of America.” He has also floated the possibility of changing New Mexico’s name to “New America.”

Few shows have spent as much time dissecting Trump’s public persona as “South Park.“ The series has targeted him repeatedly since his first presidency, and the material has only become more frequent during his second term.

The new name arrives days after another shot at the President. Following the show’s Primetime Emmy win for Outstanding Animated Program, the official “South Park” X account posted an image of its Trump character holding an Emmy while standing with his trousers and underwear around his ankles. “You finally got your Emmy,” read the caption, a reference to Trump’s two Emmy nominations for “The Apprentice,“ which lost the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program award in both 2004 and 2005 to “The Amazing Race.“

Season 29 arrives on Comedy Central on September 16 at 10 PM ET/PT, with new episodes also heading to Paramount+ internationally and becoming available the following day in the U.S., Canada and Australia. Further episodes are scheduled for September 30, October 14, October 28, November 11 and November 25.

There is, however, one detail worth remembering before marking the dates in permanent ink: “South Park” has never been particularly respectful of television schedules.

The production famously operates on an extremely tight turnaround, with episodes often completed only a week before broadcast. That speed keeps the show’s political material current, but it also means premiere dates can move.

For now, “South America” is the name on the card.

Whether it survives until the next episode is another question.
