Alt-pop disruptor Maggie Andrew steps into a new era with her EP “How To Sing For Money”, a collection that proves she’s not here to play by pop’s rulebook. Featuring singles like ‘Fall Like a Feather,’ ‘How To Sing For Money,’ and ‘Emotional Touchdown’, the latter breaking into the US pop radio Top 60 this week, the record cements Andrew as a fearless storyteller. Across glowing ’80s synths, jagged guitars, and quiet confessions, she blurs sweetness with sting, weaving sharp wordplay and raw vulnerability into her most commanding work yet.
The EP was born from a restless creative storm, sparked by her 2024 win at CBC Music’s Searchlight competition. That victory gave Andrew a recording residency at Calgary’s National Music Centre, but the songs themselves took shape during an intense month in Toronto with longtime collaborators Carleton Stone and Kyle Mischiek. The result is a body of work that slides between distorted catharsis (‘Did You Cry’), folky defiance (‘If God Was Real’), and aching nostalgia (‘Unfinished Business’), while carrying an unshakable pulse of resilience.
Alongside the record, Andrew drops a cinematic video for ‘Did You Cry’, directed by MOOSECANFLY, where she embodies a runaway bride breaking free from a toxic love. For Andrew, it’s more than just another pop release, it’s a declaration of identity. “I embrace my flair and attitude; I don’t give a fuck about external pressure when I’m making music,” she says. Rooted in lived chaos and stitched together with grit, “How To Sing For Money” isn’t just a milestone, it’s Maggie Andrew setting her own rules in real time.
