Dropout Kings have released the official video for ‘Brace Yourself’, a deeply personal tribute to their late frontman Adam Ramey and to the life, friendships and creative energy he brought into the band’s world.
The song appears on “Yokai”, the Phoenix group’s latest album and the final record to feature Ramey, who died in May 2025 at the age of 32. Completed shortly before his death, the album now carries the weight of a final creative statement while remaining rooted in the sound that helped establish Dropout Kings as one of trap metal’s most distinctive acts.
The new video moves away from the conventions of a standard performance clip. Concert footage, backstage moments, home videos and live recordings come together in a portrait that moves between the public figure onstage and the person remembered by those closest to him.
Ramey’s presence runs through the entire film, not as a distant memory, but as part of the shared history that continues to bind the band and its audience together.
In a statement accompanying the release, Dropout Kings reflected on the role music has played in creating connection, community and a sense of purpose, describing ‘Brace Yourself’ as an invitation to revisit the experiences and relationships that shaped the band, and to remember “our beloved King who started it all. Our brother, Adam Ramey.”
Across “Yokai”, the band’s collision of nu metal, rap and metalcore remains intact, but the record now carries an unavoidable emotional dimension. The songs preserve Ramey’s creative voice while existing in the shadow of a loss that has permanently changed the band’s story.
With ‘Brace Yourself’, Dropout Kings return to that story through images of movement, laughter, performance and memory. The video becomes a document of the people and moments that made the band what it is, and of the presence Adam Ramey continues to have within it.
