The grime, noise and restless energy of the 1990s East Bay punk scene set the stage for “…And Out Comes the Wolf”, which will make its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival on October 16 in Newport Beach, California. Directed by Danny Peykoff, the film takes inspiration from Rancid’s iconic 1995 album, drawing on the music and attitude of a scene shaped by frustration, defiance and the refusal to accept an assigned place in the world.

At the centre of the story are Willy and Brixton, two friends trying to escape the difficult circumstances they were born into. Growing up amid violence, desperation and limited prospects, they look for a way beyond the environments that have defined their lives. Punk rock runs through their story as a cultural force and a personal code, giving shape to their determination to push back against a future that seems to have been decided for them.

The screenplay was written by twin brothers Jason and Jamie Neese, known for their work on “The Umbrella Academy” and “Cruel Summer”, alongside Peykoff. Together, they bring the story to the screen through a fast-paced narrative that follows the tension between youthful ambition and the realities of growing up in a world offering few easy exits.

The cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Harold Perrineau, Orlando Norman, Spence Moore II, Taryn Manning, Heidi Grace Engerman, Cassaday McClincy Zhang, Sam Rechner, Ryan Hurst, Wes Muholland and Curran Walters.

The world premiere takes place on Friday, October 16, at 7:30 PM at Big Newport in Newport Beach, California, as part of the Newport Beach Film Festival. A live Q&A with Peykoff and members of the cast and crew will follow the screening, offering audiences an opportunity to hear more about the film’s development, its musical influences and its portrayal of a generation determined to find its own way forward.
