I’m a passionate copywriter, with a never ending hunger for artists and their works. I don’t see artists as human beings; I see them as collectable cards or poke-balls. And I wish I had them all. I wish all artists to be mine. Miiiine!
That’s just a peek from my daily frustrating existence. In my humble ignorance, each time I reach a level where I’m living under the impression that I know all the amazing artists out there, one of them I had no idea about comes to life. An artist whose works are maybe more beautiful than the ones of some random artists I’ve written before.
And when that happens, I physically NEED to write about it, as revenge.
I found out about Dragos Mitrofan a few days ago. The fact that the Romanian Iasi-based photographer is a good portraits catcher seems redundant. The fact that apparently each of his portrait is hiding some kind of story behind, well, that’s something that charmed my inner critic.
You’re not wrong if you assume that most of his “models” are friends of his. And he probably knows them better than me and you. The special thing is that it looks like he is taking their portraits to find out their secrets. Somehow, when the photographer is taking your picture, you unveil some of your darkest passions, your personality, what you love or hate. The he or she who said that the picture rips a piece of your soul in the process was right. Like a Horcrux, you know?
Dragos Mitrofan’s technique is fluid, calm, steady and his vision doesn’t lack innovation. Some photo-manipulation works are really stunning. Just take a look at these:
His photos made me asking myself, for the infinite time, if I’m not just a ignorant who wants to know everything, but instead knows less than most people! Thank you Dragos, for settling out my frustrations! Again!
More of his works you can find on Facebook.
