Radu Carnariu‘s pencil drawings combine both characters of Ceausescu couple with powerfull conspiratorial symbols. The ex Romanian dictator is being mocked and he becomes by turns a socialist Golden Stag with “fuck you” horns (or maybe he’s just a wall trophy!), and a kid who’s reciting poems from the top of the big USSR boot, like a nice kid he is. Helen is only this soviet-made-of-nails-hammer-riding witch. Each of Carnariu’s work is meaningful as hell. The only thing you’d have to do is picking every hidden significance and putém all together, like pieces in a jigsaw.
The new Romanian artist’s project contains 8 drawings so far, and the title, prankish in its way, couldn’t have expressed better the disrespect towards the past régime: “Boogie-Man Generation”.
Radu Carnariu, Visual Arts teacher at “Octav Bancila” Art High-School from Iasi, is a well-know Romanian artist, with multiple exhibitons over the country and abroad. His surreal works approach mythological themes, fantasy characters and distopian worlds, vestured in unexpected colors and contrasts.
