Iron Mountain is a new name risen in these horizons with perfumes of metal and folk winds. A combination of Irish spirit and post-rock/metal elements that make “Unum”, you’ll see, a revelation. Colorful and spiritual songs what take you onto a journey in a territory, where if you haven’t walked yet, it will amaze you and make you search deeper into this culture. There are on “Unum” crazy instruments out of this folklore. There are pieced together whistles and flutes, bagpipes and all that can place in this realm call Limerick, the place where the band members came from.
“Unum” is the band’s debut album and was originally released in 2015, but in a small number of copies. It seems that the impact was more than a positive one if it went to the relaunch of the album. There is an atmosphere of classical pubs, slightly dark but with a sort of story elves, fairies and magical realms. I won’t tell you about every song, I just want to emphasize the darker air and somehow intense on “Powow” which comes as rupture of rhythm that wants to get you out of lull. It is after all a five pieces material that bind together and are sufficient to create a state of whatever nature, in the bosom of the one who bends his ear to an instrumental Irish story. So, it is enough. That’s what I think is the characteristic that emerges on “Unum”. There are as many songs as sufficient, I don’t know if I could listen for more. It is also, enough what happens in terms of music and innovation for a debut album to get some attention. And yes, there are metal elements well integrated behind the whistling flute, perhaps too behind, but let’s not focus on this. A listening that I think it would tell you more in a live version, somewhere in a special landscape, with few people and this is how the story is born…
