Savage Slit is the alter-ego of a 32-years old French graphic designer and illustrator with a disposition to sex, death and the connection between them. Most of the time she chooses to change the technique, the style or the perspective used for drawing. That’s why almost every series seems to be drawn by someone else. She explained for Cultartes: “I’ve always liked to draw bodies, especially woman and skins, but I’ve decided to do it more often because I feel a real pleasure while doing it. My illustrations are various, I love to change tools, to experiment – just as in sex – and because I’m always changing myself”.
Savage Slit is a pseudonym that basically concentrates her whole artistic influences, a combination of punk-rock lifestyle and woman empowerment (“[the pseudonym] is a nod to the ‘archetype of the wild woman and to the band Savages”, as she says). She considers herself a feminist and that can be seen in her illustrations: women sensually fucking each other, women in dominant situations, women playing manly sports (while nude), ridiculed male genitalia flying all around like objects. “I do erotic illustration as a feminist way to show a woman freedom and woman pleasure, but I like to draw every kind of relation – hetero, bi, gay, or all mixed”, she points out.
In their chaotic beauty, the sketches reveal their own passion, their own untold story. The artist compares her lines to some kind of breaches in the surface (the canvas), echoes from a potential ‘other side’, screaming, trying to reach out to her. “I’m fascinated by the sexual energy. It is really powerful and it echoes to Death. I also like punk rock music atmosphere in erotic moments”.
