Coldplay Have Released A Trippy, Reality-Bending Video For Their Latest Single “Up&Up.”

Up&Up” is the third single from Coldplay‘s seventh studio album A Head Full of Dreams. It’s a surreal adventure filled with eagles flying underwater, cars circling Saturn’s rings and volcanoes spewing popcorn. The clip, co-directed by Vania Heymann and Gal Muggia, also depicts the band members as giants walking among mountains and clouds.

MTV‘s UK site stated the video as “weird and wonderful in every respect”, and “Magical yet poignant”. One of the locations used in the video is Croatian mountain range called Biokovo.

After giving fans a live performance preview of the album on 21 November 2015 at Los Angeles, frontman Chris Martin said: “This is kind of the song we’ve been waiting to write for 15 years.”

The music video makes extensive use of impossible imagery, such as in this screenshot, where dolphins can be seen swimming in a sea situated underneath an inverted landmass.

The song, meanwhile, has a Noel Gallagher guitar solo and backing vocals from the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” collaborator Merry Clayton.

Still can't tell exactly my origins because of my Chinese eyes. I love romance. Cartoons and music. Cultartes. Hate fish roe. From the bottom of my heart.
