Chris Devour, Romanian talented photographer and designer rebranded Cultartes Magazine with a new logo. Now, I don’t know how many of you already noticed the clues hidden inside the logo, so here’s a quick guide to a better understanding of it.
We came up with a bunch of logos in the past years, in order to give a visual hint that there are two ideas in a single word. We used different kinds of fonts, or styles. We added even a minimal up-side-down female genitalia as an ‘A’ (to highlight our uncensored side) which worked just fine for some time (at the moments it wasn’t mistaken for a tampon advertisement and wasn’t banned on social media!).
But we’re no designers, we’re writers. So that whatever we tried, we knew we had got to change it at some point. Until this guy (a designer) came up with our new logo. And it was love at first sight.
That meaningful ‘C’
The beautiful first letter could’ve easily been a logo of its own. If you rotate clockwise at 45 degrees, it becomes an ‘A’, which is the first letter of our second main subject – Art (here, Artes).

The Roman writing style
Chris Devour is known for his multicultural influences in his work. In his most recent creation he used the letter ‘V’ instead of our usual ‘U’. Does it change the way you’re reading the whole word? No! Does it look cooler? Definitely!
The old in-word clash
He kept our already ancient style of two different fonts and styles in a single word. The first part (‘CULT’) is an uppercase word of 4 letters which illustrate our main area of expertise – Culture. The second part, is an italic, letter-style, almost hand-written style, a very good choice for the word ‘ARTES’ (the ‘E’ is mute, btw).
